It's really hard to believe that 8 years ago I brought a little baby girl into our house. She was so small that she didn't even take up a cushion when we laid her on the couch. Now, here we are, 8 years later, and I have a wonderful young lady! It is one of the best parts of motherhood...watching your children grow into the wonderful people they will become. I am truly blessed!
To celebrate her birthday, we took Genevieve to the opening day of the Renaissance Festival. I've always loved going to the Festivals, and it's so fun to see the kiddos enjoying it. Ken had to work, but our neighbors very graciously came with us. I love my neighbors!!! They are a blessing to God to our family in so many ways that I don't know what I would do without them!
Of course, we all had a fantastic time! The girls had a great time wandering around the fair and getting to watch all of the cool shows...and of course, shopping! Benjamin was happy with sight seeing and getting to play with all the rocks.
I think the highlight of the festival was when we saw the joust. Being a festival veteran, I left the girls with the neighbors and headed over to the joust area 45 minutes early to get us a front row seat. Benjamin went with me, and had a blast wandering around the benches, picking up the rocks and giving them to complete strangers. He even mooched a package of pop tarts off of a neighboring family. He was highly amusing and provided quite a show to all those around him. About 15 minutes before the joust was scheduled to begin, the dark knight came out and was walking around, chit chatting with the crowd. At first, Benjamin had no clue that he was there. Then, when he spotted him, he marched up to the fellow and bellowed at him! That's my little squire, always checking to see who's the top dog! Though I will say that bravery did gave way to common sense. When the dark knight confronted Sir Benjamin, he "bravely ran away." It was funny to watch the whole scene unfold. :)
Once everyone showed up, we were treated to a front row view of the joust. We were seated on the dark knight's side, and so we rooted for him. It was funny to watch how the kids justified his actions. "He's not cheating...it's just that he wanted to get in the first blow!" Hmmm...wonder where I've heard that before?!
We wrapped up our trip with a little more shopping and then headed back home. Though we were all exhausted, everyone had such a good time that it was all worth it. :)
Boy, has it been a looong time since I've been able to get a post up!! We've been busy, busy with school, my birthday, the annual Tae Kwon Do tournament. Phew!!
And, to top it all off, Genevieve decided that for her birthday she would like a couple of gerbils. Long story, but we drove down to the breeder in Atlanta yesterday and picked them up. After thinking long and hard, Genevieve has decided to call them Gold and Silver. They're a funny little pair. Silver is definitely the more adventuresome of the two, and is constantly climbing through the cup holders and up into the ball that hangs from their ceiling. Gold is quite a bit shyer and prefers to spend most of her awake time running in their wheel.
The girls, are obviously thrilled. I must confess, that Benjamin appears to be very confused. He has just finally got the concept that things that live in glass tanks are "fsh", and now we throw him this loop. He definitely thinks the gerbils are cool, he just hasn't figured out what they are yet. ;)
