These past two days are incredibly hard to put into words. Perhaps the easiest way to describe it is an emotional rollercoaster. Before I go too much farther, I want to let you know that I don’t use that term in an negative way. Quite the opposite…but I’ll explain later.

My father in law, Art Gregory passed away last week rather unexpectedly. Art was an amazing man in so many ways that it is almost impossible to put into words. To have known him was a blessing in and of itself. I’m trying, but I really can’t put everything into words. He was an awesome grandfather to my children, and to use my mother in law’s words “He truly was one of the good guys.”

I had the privilege to be able to go to Illinois for the grave side service. I was supposed to leave our airport at 5:40am, but like an idiot, I left my cell phone at home. So unfortunately I ended up missing my flight. That would normally be a *very* stressful event, but as it turned out, it was an amazing blessing (see, and you thought I wasn’t going to tie this back into the title!). Because I missed my flight, I was blessed to meet the most amazing British lady. Angela was quite possibly one of the most interesting people I have been privileged to meet. As we waited for our next flight, we chatted like old friends. She told me such fabulous stories about her life in England, then Spain, and finally Texas. She told me about her grandchildren who live in the same town as us. She told me of her biker husband who has a heart of gold. I told her about Benjamin and his journey, and she told me about her own battle with cancer. Anyway, eventually we boarded our flight and sat in our respective parts of the plane. That wasn’t the end of my journey with Angela though. Since I had a two and a half hour layover in Atlanta, I decided that I was going to become Angela’s stalker. Angela had problems walking, and I figured she might need some help, so I asked if I could escort her to her gate and maybe get some lunch. She agreed, and continued our fabulous journey together filled with amazing stories. It was with an almost heavy heart when we finally parted paths. I know that there is no way that Angela will ever read this (she doesn’t have a computer, she gave hers away), but I really hope that one day I will meet up her in the airport again!!

I eventually made it to St. Louis and was able to spend some wonderful quality time with my extended family while celebrating the life and morning the passage of my step father in law. It was an honor to attend his service, and I was truly blessed in so many ways by my time in IL. It is truly amazing to me how wonderfully blessed I have been in so very, very many ways lately!

And Mom Betty, if you’re reading this…AK. That’s all I have to say. :D

New Year, New Beginnings

Looking back at the posts, I see that I haven’t posted anything since September of 2010.  There’s not a whole lot I can say about that, other than, like most other people, I have been busy.

I don’t want to bore you, but just for the fun of it, I’ll list out a few of the things that have happened since my last post…

Genevieve and Autumn have both started public school.  For Genevieve, it has been several months of ups and downs as she tries to get the hang of public education.  There have been some really good things, and there have been times of great sorrow, but through it all, I have been proud of how well Genevieve has stayed true to who she is.  And Autumn has had a bit of an adjustment going from Kindergarten to First Grade.  The kid is smart as a whip (as always), but has had a little bit of a hard time getting used to the personal disciple required of first graders.  I am thrilled with her teacher Ms. Starks who always manages to find the perfect balance for our little Marine.  God has really blessed us with two FABULOUS teachers this year!

Benjamin finished chemo on October of last year and has done an amazing job of keeping himself in N.E.R.D. (No Evidence of Recurring Disease) status.  Our next set of scans is scheduled for January 25, and as usual, I am very anxious about them.  The statistics (what little there is about Histio) indicate that if Benjamin is going to have a recurrence, there is a much greater chance of it happening the first year out of chemo. However, God has seen us through this far, and I know He will be with us regardless of whether Histio ever dares to show its ugly head again.

Autumn turned 7 this year.  I know it’s well past cliché, but I really have no idea where all the time has gone.  It has been such an amazing year with my Boo.  She is such a spectacularly terrific little lady, and I am *truly* blessed to have her as my daughter!  (By the way, Grandmas Margie and Betty went all out and bought her a DSi for her birthday this year!!  This has inspired much jealously from both Genevieve (*she* had to wait until she was *9* after all!!) and her little brother, who keeps asking me “I get DSi for my next birfday?!”)

We managed to survive Thanksgiving and Christmas Waffle House style for yet another year.  If you’re not aware of the sacrifices that people in the service industry make during the holidays, please feel free to give me a call and I will let you know in vivid detail the joys involved.

We were able to (FINALLY) refinance our mortgage.  As a part of the conditions of the loan, we were able to install laminate floors in our living room and hallway.  Ken and I did the installation by ourselves, and were able to put them in (without any training) in 2 weeks.  I’m actually pretty proud of our accomplishment.  Let me tell you, I have lived with carpet, cement and now laminate.  In my opinion, if you have children, laminate is the way to go!!!  I love how nice the floor looks and how *easy* it is to clean up.  If we ever move, our next house is toooootally going to have laminate floors!!

Looking back at this post, I realize that I have just exceeded one full page of text!  If you have made it this far, then I congratulate you for your persistence!!  And now, lest someone sue me due to the eye strain that I have subjected my readers to (durned lawyers!!), I will sign off.  I wish everyone out there that is reading this the happiest of New Years, and all the blessings you can dream to imagine!!
